Orchestra Road Trip 2016
An 8:00 am departure complete with suitcases, backpacks, warm blankets and bagged lunches. This is what our Friday morning consisted of as we set out on an eight hour road trip. Over the course of the Louis Riel weekend, our Winnipeg Symphony Youth Orchestra (WSYO) covered over 700 miles by bus in our journey to Thunder Bay to play a Valentine’s Day concert.
Although we were stuck on a bus for eight hours, Grace and Katherine were all smiles as they sat huddled next to the window.

Saturday Night Lights
After an entire day of sectionals and full rehearsal, the Thunder Bay Symphony Youth Orchestra (TBSYO) and WSYO gathered at the home of one of the TBSYO players. A snow covered property acted as the perfect playground for all sorts of winter activities.

Dressing Room Anticipations

Playing alongside members of the Thunder Bay Symphony Youth Orchestra as well as the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra was a truly rewarding experience. We left inspired after having played a selection of some of the most epic pieces of classical music.
I recommend you all take the time to listen to the orchestral pieces which we performed this weekend. My favourite is Danzón No. 2 by Arturo Marquez!
Attached below you will find links to the works:
John Rutter-Gloria
Tchaikovsky-The Sleeping Beauty (ballet)-Pas D’action, Adagio
Tchaikovsky-The Sleeping Beauty (ballet)-Valse
Maurice Ravel-Bolero
