C’est une technique de cinéma qui adopte un esprit pessimiste et fataliste avec une humeur de menace. Créer tout en noir et blanc, cette ambiance cinématographique était initialement appliquée à des films “thriller” américains. Ce style a d’abord été popularisé par un groupe de critiques français durant les années 1944-54.

Comme les films, la pellicule photographique en noir et blanc adopte les mêmes principes.

What is a “film noir”?

In short, this is a cinematic technique that uses a pessimistic and fatalistic atmosphere together with grim menace to produce dark plots and characters. Created strictly in black and white, this style was first applied to “thriller” American films. This approach to film making was first popularized by a group of French movie critics during the years of 1944-54.

Just like the films, black and white film photography follows the same principles.
