How does one find their place in an environment that is best described as a temporary home? Answer: You turn your surroundings into art. For me, that means making everything familiar through photography. I know that this is a theme that often resurfaces through my many blog posts…But after all, this is a blog, and that’s what blogs are for, right?
All sarcasm aside, this is a project that I kept myself busy with throughout the beginning of my stay here in Tours. Throughout the months of September to November, I shot over 5000 photos with the goal of eventually compiling them into a short film. The result was this video which I submitted for an art contest here in my city. The basis of the contest was to create a piece of work which highlighted the life of an international student living in France. Although this project was executed with a predetermined subject in mind, the shooting of this video was truly something I chose to do for my own sake. What better way to immortalize my experiences abroad than by capturing them on film?
And so, violà. This is the result of my so called artistic experimentation; a brief and intimate view into my everyday life. I hope you enjoy it and I hope it helps you imagine what my quotidian surroundings resemble.
