Social media is revolutionizing the way individuals are communicating. In the era of networked societies and the popular use of digital connection, information is created and shared across the globe at an incredible speed. With this shift in social behaviours, many realities of our everyday life are also being altered to exist solely within the online world. Practices such as dating, completing a university class, collaborating with colleagues, or following a sourdough recipe are regularly becoming available on digital platforms. These processes are especially common with regards to activism and the desire to participate in social movements.

Busy, vibrant, and humid. These are the three words I would use to describe the city of Venice. Back in April 2019, I spent four days winding my way through tightly knit streets and crooked bridges, pointing my camera at whatever captured my eye. Even though some of the days were muggled with rain, Venice lived up to the expectations.

I am sure that any lover of classical music has already marked Salzburg, Austria as a must-see location on their bucket list. This city is famous for being Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s place of birth. Even though he lived approximately 260 years ago, his musical legacy is carefully preserved and celebrated.

How does one find their place in an environment that is best described as a temporary home? Answer: You turn your surroundings into art. For me, that means making everything familiar through photography. I know that this is a theme that often resurfaces through my many blog posts…But after all, this is a blog, and that’s what blogs are for, right?

Binevenue à Versailles; A castle filled with rich history and alluring charm. Today, this is a place which is flocked by tourists. However, all the furore brought on by sightseers is not what makes this chateau special. Living in a modern world marked by technological developments and the rise of the internet era, it is often hard to imagine how our ancestors were able to create such complex worlds with limited resources in comparison to what we have today.

Welcome to November in France. When taking a look outside, the autumnal landscape is accentuated by a meticulous sense of colour coordination. The once lush, green scenery has metamorphosed to emulate a feverish and everlasting sunshine.

Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic; sophisticated, quiet, and colourful. At first glance, this city looks like a kaleidoscopic wonderland that belongs on a vintage postcard.

A sunny Saturday with a predicted high temperature of 27 degrees was the perfect recipe for a day trip to the city of Nantes. Our afternoon was filled with sweet coffee, an architectural steampunk wonderland, as well as endless spontaneous moments of exploration amongst the flavourful galette restaurants.

Prior to settling down in France, my family and I nestled ourselves into our small apartment in Kamienna Gòra, Poland. Here, we spent approximately two weeks before embarking on our extensive road trip to Tours.

A question I often ask myself these days is: “How did I end up here?”. And by here, I mean studying as an international student in the middle of France. Nine months ago, at the beginning of the second university semester in Winnipeg, I began applying for a study-abroad scholarship. In hindsight, my actions at the start of January turned out to be the grassroots of a serendipitous adventure.

Normally, I don’t pay attention to hashtags. However, this one caught my eye. On Instagram, when you look at the photos under #WorldPhotographyDay, you will find over 225 thousand publications from photographers of varying skill levels from all across the world.

To all my lovely women out there: today is dedicated to celebrating YOU! Although the recognition of accomplishments and monumental actions of those who have shaped women’s history deserves more than just one day, March 8th is a time when individuals within society are recognized without regard to divisions. When analyzing the factors contributing to the marginalization of the female community across the world, it is important to acknowledge all social, cultural, economic, linguistic, and political obstacles that have stunted the growth of women’s identity throughout history.

Late night drives are arguably one of the best ways one can learn to enjoy their own company. For me, turning up the radio on an evening cruise has become synonymous with the idea of escapism, used to help me feel more comfortable within my own solitude.

A Sunday of adventures and good company is all that one needs. This past weekend, I embarked on a day long journey around Winnipeg with two of the loveliest people. Travelling on foot (and by bus), we explored what our already familiar city had to offer.

Olivia’s music can be described as sharing indie-alternative melodies with underlying folklore tones. These elements are all tied together by a string of pop vibes woven tightly by intricate instrumentation and warm vocals. Olivia’s use of mesmerizing lyrics are accompanied by a story behind each word, which  instantly allows her listeners to be enveloped by her artistic presence. Whether I’m listening to her play little ukulele tunes around my kitchen or watching her perform her original pieces on a stage, she never fails to make me fall in love with her music.

An 8:00 am departure complete with suitcases, backpacks, warm blankets and bagged lunches. This is what our Friday morning consisted of as we set out on an eight hour road trip. Over the course of the Louis Riel weekend, our Winnipeg Symphony Youth Orchestra (WSYO) covered over 700 miles by bus in our journey to Thunder Bay to play a Valentine’s Day concert.

You may know her as the spunky red head with insane musical talent. I know her as the down to earth, soul filled best friend who enjoys eating Russian mint chocolate with me in my kitchen. However you may know Olivia, one thing is for certain; she is a girl filled creativity and curiosity, ready to share it with the world around her.
